About the series

From the series Casabianda (shown at Les Rencontres d'Arles, 2012). Casabianda is the only French penitentiary without enclosing walls — a Corsican open-air prison where confinement is inscribed not in stone, but in the surrounding agricultural and forested landscape. Maubert traverses this territory and fixes its limits through a precise protocol: each photograph carries its GPS coordinates, materialising the implicit geography of detention. The flatness of the photographic medium resonates with the apparent calm of the landscape — neutral, almost ordinary, until the inscribed coordinates reveal what each frame actually contains: a frontier, an incarceration. Each image's title IS its GPS coordinate, inscribed directly onto the print. At the intersection of documentary and fiction, the series engages with memory, territory, and how images can make tangible realities that are concrete yet imperceptible.
