Press release
Press release MORI YU GALLERY presents Sakae Ozawa 「舟を彫る鳥」 from Saturday August 26 to Sunday October 1. In this exhibition, Ozawa's first in about a year, about 30 works are shown: works painted during her stay in Austria this summer, together with new paintings made in her studio in Kyoto. Please be sure to come and see it, and bring your friends. --------------------------------------------------- Half are paintings painted in Granegg, in the state on the border with Slovenia in southern Austria, and half are paintings painted in Kyoto. In Granegg, a special place for me, I borrowed a friend's studio and painted: that is how this summer began. I read the few books I had brought, swam in the lake, walked in the forest with my friend and the dog, and talked on and on as we walked. About absolutely everything. I can only say it was thanks to the place and to her. Things inside me that had been scattered in pieces, unable to be given a proper form, melted together while walking, in conversation, became one big something, and landed on the ground, suton. Ah, I thought. It was not looking, but listening, then. When the voice of the land begins to be heard like that, various other things also begin to turn up the volume of their voices. That passed well into the brush, and the rest of the paintings completed themselves on their own. I simply admire the power that a place holds. And the power that silence harbors, too. 「舟を彫る鳥」 is the black woodpecker I met on a walk. Sakae Ozawa --------------------------------------------------- Sakae Ozawa Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1980.
