MORI YU GALLERY presents Itsuki Kaito 'Jungle -7,000,000' / Keiichiro Fujiwara 'Stone with eyelids' from Saturday August 5 to Tuesday August 22. Please be sure to come and see it, and bring your friends. ------------------------------------------------------------- Based on the idea that human beings obtain ecstasy through arts difficult for others to understand, and moreover produce something, it deals with narcissism, including the self-mockery and amorality needed to accept this. 'Jungle -7,000,000' mainly shows works depicting an artificial 'jungle' painted in cold colors, based on the situation of the artist himself, who, while bearing a scholarship = debt (student loan) of 7 million yen produced by going on to art university, intends to live as an artist from now on. Itsuki Kaito (born in Sapporo in 1993) graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design. Currently in the second year of the master's course (painting) at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts. 2016 'Tohoku' (Daikanyama T-site, Tokyo), 2017 「タイガーのテクニック」 (Kyoto City University of Arts, Kyoto) and others. 2017: first cohort of the Kuma Foundation Creator Scholarship. ------------------------------------------------------------- To repeat small daily tasks, addressed to no one in particular: that repetition bears fruit when one witnesses a certain exceptional moment in which an absence, as if leaving one's own hands, is brought into relief. The interweaving of an inseparable organicity and what arrives in the innermost depths of 'separation'. Keeping the picture plane in an undifferentiated state, the very accumulation of movements and translations that slide sideways across its surface can be called an autonomous study without an ending. 'There will be one more eye, one unknown eye, beside our eyes: under the stone eyelid, keeping silent.'* Just as Malte's fragmentary monologue, which grasps and recalls the existence lying from past to future, takes the form of notebooks, I cannot help feeling that turning one's eyes, from a place at a distance from the story, toward events occurring outside the story is a quiet rebellion and at the same time shows us a gaze that has been concealed.
