As a child I was always watching plants and insects. Even now there are times when I stare at them. I don't know why, but it's like how you get thirsty if you're alive; there are probably times when you've got to replenish that kind of thing. Fallen shrubs, a huge flock of crows scavenging for something on the riverbank... none of it means anything. About ten years ago, walking at night in a field in the countryside of a distant foreign land, I was always getting separated from my companions. I could see the Milky Way, and shooting stars too. No sign of humans at all. Every time, I thought, am I going to die like this? But I thought that would be fine too. Things only turn out how they turn out, so I was trying to merge into the darkness just as I was. One time, separated from my companions and tired of walking, I was sitting still alone in a potato field when a deer called. 2 a.m., in the middle of the field. An impossible passerby came along on a bicycle. I ran up and asked, 'Which way is ...?' and the passerby pointed without a word and went away. I went that way, and after about an hour I ran into my companions. Even though it was a completely different direction from the town I had asked about. I felt something. But I didn't want to understand it, so I left it as it was. That's the kind of story it is.
