Nobuhiro Hanaoka was born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1980, and in 2006 completed the master's program at the Graduate School of Art, Kyoto Seika University. In 2009 he received the <Special Prize> at the 12th Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art exhibition. 'Things and traces made by the repetition of an act. These sometimes go beyond the purpose of that act and change into something else, something new. I am interested in things like this, which continue to exist while deviating from their original purpose.' Nobuhiro Hanaoka The exhibition title 'Immaterial excretion' was given under the inspiration of the works of Art Brut in which Hanaoka is interested. It means some act that has come out irresistibly from the drive of life, or its traces. Hanaoka works with the aim of drawing out the interest of the form finally arrived at by carving on without connection, and the sense of incongruity produced by combinations of meanings. Hidden in Hanaoka's works are humor and at the same time a kind of pleasantness, and an 'incongruity' that is cast toward the viewer and lasts. Hanaoka's 'three-dimensional works by sculpture', which always slip away from viewers the moment the sensation is put into words, even come to seem to shift various historical concepts. His display in 「ユーモアと飛躍 そこにふれる」 (August 17 to October 20, 2013) at the Okazaki City Museum, a parallel project of Aichi Triennale 2013, is also very interesting and has been well received.
